Marshall Receives House Committee Assignments
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jim Marshall (R-Beaver/Butler) has been appointed to serve on the following the House committees during the 2017-18 legislative session: Transportation, Environmental Resources and Energy, Liquor Control, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness.
The committees provide legislative oversight and help shape the language in bills that fall under their areas of responsibility.
“I am looking forward to serving on these committees and helping to shape the Commonwealth’s policies,” Marshall said. “Last session, we made progress on a wide variety of important issues, but there is still plenty of work to be done.”
The House Transportation Committee is responsible for reviewing vehicle code regulations, mandatory insurance and coverage minimums, rules of the road, parking and local enforcements, mass transit codes, rail issues, PennDOT planning, oversight of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, airports, scenic highways and highway naming.
“I’m honored to continue serving on the Transportation Committee and as chairman of the Subcommittee on Transportation Safety again this session,” Marshall said. “Ensuring public safety by taking care of our roads and bridges is a core function of government.”
The Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee focuses on the needs of Pennsylvania’s first responders and veteran community, as well as works to keep all Commonwealth residents safe. For example, a key focus this session will be the recruitment and retention of the state’s emergency responders.
The Liquor Control Committee is responsible for issues relating to the administration of alcoholic beverage licenses and the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages.
The House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee is responsible for legislative oversight for more than 45 different environmental laws in place in the Commonwealth, administered by both the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
“I’m especially pleased to be involved in committee discussions related to our environment and our energy industries, which are extraordinarily significant to our district,” Marshall said. “It’s important for us to balance our economic necessities with our environmental responsibilities.”
