Mustio Appointed Chairman of House Professional Licensure Committee
HARRISBURG -- Rep. Mark Mustio (R-Allegheny) will begin his eighth term in office as the newly appointed Chairman of the
Pennsylvania House Professional Licensure Committee.
“I am honored to receive this appointment for the upcoming session,” said Chairman Mustio. “I look forward to the work of helping to craft and advance legislation that will ensure occupational professionals are properly licensed in order to maintain the highest standards of excellence and deliver the best level of service for the citizens of Pennsylvania.”
The Professional Licensure Committee maintains jurisdiction over all legislation dealing with the 29 professional and occupational licensing boards located administratively in the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs (BPOA) in the Department of State. Professionals range from physicians and cosmetologists to real estate agents and funeral directors.
Additionally, the committee is charged with reviewing the various regulations put forward by the Department of State regarding licensed professionals. For example, legislation to establish licensing boards to regulate massage therapists and crane operators was enacted in recent years. The Committee has also repeatedly required modification of regulatory packages when it has determined that a board’s regulatory proposal would implement language not supported in its law.
Mustio has served as a member of the Professional Licensure Committee since he was first elected to office in June 2003.
