Petri Bill Updates Residency Rules for Philadelphia Parking Authority Board
HARRISBURG – Legislation sponsored by Rep. Scott Petri (R-Bucks) to modify the structure of the Philadelphia Parking Authority Board is on its way to becoming law.
House Bill 1998 softens residency requirements for the board, allowing representation from suburban counties provided the resident has a business in Philadelphia. The bill stipulates that all members must be residents of the county, or work or maintain a business in the city.
“While it is possible that all members will still reside in the city, my bill will allow for a broader field of candidates from which to choose,” said Petri. “The parking authority has jurisdiction over limousines and Uber and Lyft drivers who reside in suburban counties, so representation on the board is important. Now, more than ever, the composition of the Philadelphia Parking Authority Board should be considered.”
House Bill 1998, which passed in the House in June, won approval in the Senate on Tuesday and is now headed for the governor’s desk. Once signed, the measure will become law in 60 days.
