Toepel Announces House Passage of Temporary Budget Bill that Fully Funds Education for Next 12 Months
HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives today passed a temporary budget bill that will fund the majority of the state for the next five months with the exception of education, which will be funded for the next 12 months. Following House passage of the budget bill, Rep. Marcy Toepel (R-Montgomery) released this statement:
“This has been a challenging year for everyone, which is why we decided to work to get a budget done early that will see the state through the next few months until we can get a better picture of the economic fallout from the pandemic.
“However, the last thing we wanted to do was leave our schools guessing while trying to complete their budgets. Our shared goal of providing a quality education for the next academic year requires full funding for 12 months. Schools are facing new challenges due to COVID-19 and need the assurance of knowing what their state funding will be in order to appropriately plan for the school year.
“Once a temporary budget is signed into law, we will have the time to better assess our economic projections and begin talking about what the remaining seven months of the budget will look like.”
House Bill 2387 now goes to the Senate for consideration.
