Hershey Supports 2020-21 State Budget
HARRISBURG – Rep. John Hershey (R-Mifflin/Juniata/Franklin) voted “yes” Friday on a $32 billion budget that finishes work started in May.
The new spending plan focuses on the remainder of the 2020-21 fiscal year, which ends June 30. The Pennsylvania General Assembly earlier crafted a partial-year budget as it contended with uncertainty associated with the COVID-19 crisis and its impacts on the state’s economy.
The budget holds the line on taxes and uses federal CARES Act dollars to address shortfalls.
May’s budget extended education funding for the full year, but questions remained about many other areas of spending.
“I’m grateful we could work together in a bipartisan fashion to put together the budget passed Friday, in large part because it answers some of those unknowns about state spending. This was an unusual year in so many ways. Despite the challenges, we were able to create a budget that does not raise taxes or involve new borrowing,” Hershey said.
The budget goes to the governor’s desk for his signature.
