Nelson Rejects Unsustainable State Budget
HARRISBURG — Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Hempfield Township) issued the following the statement after voting to reject the $31.55 billion general fund budget (
Senate Bill 1073) that passed the state House on Tuesday:
“I could not support a $1.5 billion expansion of government through a plan that sets the stage for massive tax increases both now and the future. We have to tighten the belt when times are tough. If this budget spent even 1 percent to 2 percent less, we could pass a balanced budget which increases funding for education and addiction services without increasing taxes. It is wrong for government to spend dollars we don’t have and then demand taxpayers make up the difference.”
