Budget Focuses on Educational Opportunities for All Students, Quigley Says
6/21/2018
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tom Quigley (R-Montgomery) today joined a strong, bipartisan House majority in voting for a $32.7 billion budget that makes record education investments without any tax increases or borrowing.

“This budget truly supports educational opportunities at all levels, from pre-K to higher education. It acknowledges that students have different capabilities and provides funding for different learning settings,” Quigley said.

Record investments for school districts in the 146th District, to be distributed according to the Fair Funding Formula, include funding for basic and special education:

  • Perkiomen Valley: $8.8 million
  • Pottsgrove: $10.2 million
  • Pottstown: $13.7 million
  • Spring-Ford Area: $12.4 million
Early childhood education programs Pre-K Counts and Head Start would receive an additional $25 million.

The budget would also dedicate $30 million for career and technical education so the Commonwealth has a trained workforce that can respond to the needs of today’s economy.

“Pursuing a career or technical education may have come with a stigma in the past, but young men and women are seeing the benefits it offers now. Graduating with minimal (or no) debt and enjoying high starting salaries – often $50,000 or more – is enticing students to fill vacant positions,” Quigley added.

The budget now advances to the Senate for consideration.
