Mehaffie Appointed to House Professional Licensure Committee
6/14/2018
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Tom Mehaffie (R-Dauphin) today announced he has been appointed to serve on the House Professional Licensure Committee for the remainder of the 2017-18 legislative session. In addition, he continues to serve on the House Local Government, Gaming Oversight, and Game and Fisheries committees.

“I am honored to receive this new appointment,” Mehaffie said. “This is an important committee, which works to ensure occupational professionals are held to high standards, so the citizens of Pennsylvania receive the best level of service.”

The Professional Licensure Committee maintains jurisdiction over all legislation dealing with the 29 professional and occupational licensing boards located administratively in the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs (BPOA) in the Department of State. Professionals range from physicians and cosmetologists to real estate agents and funeral directors.

Additionally, the committee is charged with reviewing the various regulations put forward by the Department of State regarding licensed professionals. For example, legislation to establish licensing boards to regulate massage therapists and crane operators was enacted in recent years.
