House Democrats Vote Against Democracy
7/14/2025
HARRISBURG – Today, House Democrats voted in unison to reject legislation that would have allowed anglers to vote for their representatives on the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC), reported Rep. David Maloney (R-Berks).

Maloney offered legislation that would allow those who purchase fishing and boating licenses to vote for commissioners of their choice and remove the governor and the Senate from the equation. The PFBC is comprised of 10 commissioners appointed by the governor and approved by the Senate.

“The legislation we discussed today was financial in nature, which is why I offered this measure in committee,” Maloney said. “Just as with Pittman-Robertson funds, Dingell-Johnson funds must be protected and the spending process transparent.”
Maloney’s measure was modeled on his legislation to allow for democratic elections for both Pennsylvania game commissioners and fish commissioners.

“The Fish and Boat Commission has done excellent work and are good at showing results for monies spent, Maloney said. “I would not like to see them go the way of the PGC, which has a sad history of egregious Pittman-Roberston violations.
