House Democrats Ram Bleak Budget Through House, Says Bashline
7/14/2025
HARRISBURG – Rep. Josh Bashline (R-Clarion/Armstrong) issued the following statement regarding the passage of House Bill 1330, a $50.61 billion spending package for the 2025-26 fiscal year:

“Similar to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s wishes of a bloated budget, this does more of the same. While this is not the final product, it falls well short of what Pennsylvanians expect from us.

“This product, which was not negotiated by all parties, looks to spend aimlessly and drain the billions of dollars in surplus and reserve funds House Republicans fought so hard to build up. When Gov. Shapiro came into office, the state had over $13 billion in reserves. By the time this fiscal year ends, that number will be cut in half.

“We always need to be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars. Every dollar counts. Spending it without significant accountability and prudence will create more rainy days for everyone.

“Putting the Commonwealth in jeopardy of fiscal failure is something I will never favor. It’s obvious to me that Gov. Shapiro is more focused on a presidential run in 2028 than he is with this budget.

“If House Democrats were serious about getting a commonsense budget in place, they should take a look at the House Republicans’ ‘Pennsylvania Prosperity Plan.’ It would keep spending in check, unleash the Commonwealth’s energy industry, support efficient government and provide a student-centered education.”
