Shaffer Urges On-Time Budget and Government Reform in Response to Governor’s Plan
2/3/2026
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jeremy Shaffer (R-Allegheny) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Josh Shapiro’s $53.26 billion budget proposal for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

“This budget is a starting point for discussion, and I look forward to working in a bipartisan manner to move toward a balanced budget that helps grow Pennsylvania.

“We have the potential to make smart investments in our communities, infrastructure and education while ensuring fiscal responsibility. My priority is to protect taxpayers and create a sustainable path for long-term growth

“I want to see a responsible spending plan that meets the June 30 fiscal-year deadline and reflects the priorities of Pennsylvanians.

“My ‘No Budget, No Pay Raise’ legislation, House Bill 1906, would ensure we as lawmakers do not receive a salary increase if we fail to pass a budget on time. Pennsylvanians deserve a government that is accountable, works efficiently and meets its obligations. This bill is a key part of my ‘Reform for Pennsylvania’ plan to bring greater transparency and responsibility to Harrisburg.”

The governor’s address is the beginning of the annual budgetary process. The budget will be thoroughly analyzed during three weeks of House Appropriations hearings beginning Feb. 23. For more information on the 2026-27 state budget, go to PABudget.com.
