Airport Authority Requests More Time to Respond to Right-to-Know Request
6/11/2019
HARRISBURG – The Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA) today notified Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) that it needs additional time to respond to a Right to Know (RTK) request submitted last week by his office.

“Having received information about transparency of the ACAA, my office asked for all meeting minutes of the ACAA board from January 2012 to the present and for auditor’s reports and financial statements for the years 2016, 2017 and 2018,” Turzai said. “Since 2007, the authority has been receiving a lot of state money and our taxpayers deserve accountability and transparency for how this money is being spent.”

In addition to the $150 million the authority received under Act 53 of 2007, it receives $12.4 million a year from the Pennsylvania Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund. It has also received significant other state funding, such as money from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which included: $1 million in 1997 for airport cleanup, $1 million in 2006 to the Pittsburgh Airport Center for Business Education and $5 million in 2014 for the Pittsburgh International World Trade Center site.

In a letter to the speaker’s office, the ACAA noted that it needs 30 additional days to respond because the request may require redaction of records in accordance with the RTK law and because a timely response to the request for access cannot be accomplished due to bona fide and specified staffing limitations.

“My office is looking forward to receiving the materials we have requested from the ACAA under the RTK law. Our taxpayers deserve a full accounting of the board’s decision-making and spending,” Turzai concluded.
