– State Rep. Lee James (R-Venango/Butler) recently was appointed to serve on the powerful House Appropriations Committee, which plays a significant role in the annual process used to approve a state budget.
“I’m pleased the people in our district will now have an even louder voice in the state budget process,” James said.
Following the governor’s annual budget address during the first quarter of the year, the House Appropriations Committee holds a series of hearings to review the administration’s proposal and identify potential policy alternatives. Various executive branch officials and department heads appear before the committee to explain their budget requests.
“This new position will empower me to more directly hold executive branch officials accountable for the way they spend local residents’ hard-earned tax dollars,” James said.
James brings more than 40 years of experience as a local businessman working in both the banking and investment management sectors to his service on the Appropriations Committee.
“With my background in finance, I’ve always taken an interest in budget-related issues,” James said. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with my colleagues on the committee to help shape future state budgets.”
Gov. Tom Wolf is expected in February to deliver his next budget address and unveil his Fiscal Year 2018-19 budget proposal before a joint session of the state House and Senate.
