Bernstine: Harrisburg Already Spends Too Much

Lawmaker issues statement on governor’s budget address
HARRISBURG – In response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s state budget address today, Rep. Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) said he plans to remain focused on cost-saving opportunities and jobs during the 2018-19 state budget cycle.

“The governor continues to ask for more and more money from Pennsylvania taxpayers and I’m strongly against that philosophy. This year, he is asking the people of Pennsylvania to pay an additional $1.1 billion to fund Harrisburg spending. Government already spends too much of our money, and we need to be looking at ways to cut spending and maximize the tax dollars we already have. I will fight for a 2018-19 budget that does not include more job-killing taxes on Pennsylvania consumers and businesses,” Bernstine said.

Wolf’s proposed budget totals $33.1 billion, which is a $1.1 billion increase over the current year.

The House Appropriations Committee is scheduled to begin three weeks of budget hearings on Feb. 20.
