Boback to Lead Voting Meeting of House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee Wednesday
WHAT: Rep. Karen Boback (R-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Wyoming), House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee majority chairman, will lead a voting meeting to consider the following legislation:

Senate Bill 1194, sponsored by Sen. Bob Mensch (R-24), which would provide for Military College of Pennsylvania cadets to commission early into the Pennsylvania National Guard as a U.S. Officer in the Army while receiving education grants under the education benefits provided under Title 51 to assist in obtaining undergraduate degrees.

House Bill 1178, sponsored by Rep. Jerry Knowles (R-Berks/Carbon/Schuylkill), which would remove the 10-year provision in which fire and EMS companies can receive the aggregate amount of grants after merging or consolidating. This would allow these companies to receive the aggregate amount in perpetuity.
Committee members will also consider a request for a review by the Independent Regulatory Review Commission of regulations governing various emergency management programs, local water rationing plans, the Bureau for Veterans’ Affairs, the State Veterans’ Home and the Persian Gulf Conflict Veterans’ Benefit.
