Flood Appointed to PA Commission for Women by Governor
6/8/2023
PEN ARGYL – Rep. Ann Flood (R-Northampton) has been appointed by Gov. Josh Shapiro to serve a two-year term on the Pennsylvania Advisory Commission for Women. She will be sworn in during the commission’s next quarterly meeting at the Governor’s Residence.

“I am incredibly honored to join over 30 other business, civic and community leaders to uplift and support women and girls in the Commonwealth,” Flood said. “There is much work to be done to make Pennsylvania an even better place for women. I am beyond excited to be a part of this.”

In July of 2008, Flood created her own nonprofit organization, Lauren’s Hope Foundation. This charity supports brain-injured children so that they may receive life-impacting services and assistive technologies. such as Hippotherapy (equine-assisted therapy) and therapeutic hyperbaric oxygen chamber sessions, as well as assistive technology like iPads and Dynavox for assistive learning, adapted tricycles and adapted strollers. Lauren’s Hope Foundation also assisted in the development of the Hypothermia Therapy Program in the NICU at The Reilly’s Children’s Hospital at Lehigh Valley Health Network and donated the equipment to commence the program.

Flood created this nonprofit in loving memory of her daughter, Lauren.

Flood has also been at the forefront of the now successful fight to push the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) to sanction high school girls wrestling so that girls throughout the Commonwealth had the same opportunities as boys to compete.

The Pennsylvania Advisory Commission for Women, which was created by executive order and consists of volunteer members, is responsible for advising the governor on policies and legislation that impact women; supporting economic and civic opportunities for women; encouraging mentoring programs for girls and young women; identifying programs and opportunities for the benefit and advancement of women; and serving as a resource center.

The commission also acts as an advocate for policies and legislation it feels serves the best interest of women and girls in the Commonwealth.
