HARRISBURG — Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Hempfield Township) today took the oath of office for a full term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to advocate for the residents of the 57th Legislative District. He began his tenure in the General Assembly about nine months ago after he won a special election.
“I look forward to continuing to work to help Pennsylvania remain a great place to live and raise a family,” Nelson said. “During the upcoming session, I am committed to working to address pension reform and the opioid epidemic. In addition, job creation and making the Commonwealth more business-friendly remain top priorities.”
A long-time resident of Westmoreland County, Nelson graduated from Hempfield Area High School and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in safety sciences from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). After graduating from college, Nelson enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served for eight years with deployments in Albania, Estonia, Okinawa and Thailand. He re-enlisted for an additional year of service following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Following his distinguished military career, Nelson returned to serve his community as a local businessman and professor.
