Hundreds of gun owners and gun rights advocates were joined by a large bipartisan group of lawmakers in the state Capitol rotunda on Monday to voice their support for the second amendment rights of Pennsylvania citizens. This was the twelfth annual second amendment rights rally to be held in Harrisburg and a number of nationally noted speakers shared their perspectives on legislative and judicial efforts to protect and preserve the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Rep. Jason Ortitay (R-Allegheny & Washington) was a featured speaker at the annual event and sponsor of legislation to eliminate the Pennsylvania Instant Check System in favor of the National Instant Check System for firearms purchases in Pennsylvania.

A bipartisan group of House and Senate lawmakers announced a package of municipal debt reform legislation Wednesday in the state capitol aimed at helping to prevent local government officials from misusing public finance laws and jeopardizing the financial future of their municipalities. Rep. Frank Ryan (R-Lebanon), sponsor of one of the bills, said the four bill package would protect taxpayers from the financial missteps of inexperienced government officials.

Penn Grade Crude Coalition released a report Tuesday in Harrisburg about the huge economic impact of the conventional oil and gas industry in the Commonwealth. Lawmakers and industry representatives praised the report as the first in-depth analysis of the full economic impact of the conventional shallow well drilling and production industry, founded in Pennsylvania more than 150 years ago. Rep. Donna Oberlander (R-Clarion, Armstrong & Forest), Chair of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Oil and Gas Caucus, attended the event and offered comments on the significance of the report.
