A bipartisan group of legislators from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives rallied on Monday in the state Capitol to prevent individuals with disabilities from being forced to sit in the community and leave day programs and sheltered workshops where they are comfortable. Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Westmoreland) led the rally, which was attended by hundreds of supporters, and said lawmakers want to ensure disabled individuals can maintain the ability to have choice in the workplace. Following the rally, the House Human Services Committee conducted a hearing on the topic to gather more information.

Rep. Farry Supports Disabled Workers at ‘My Work, My Choice’ Rally in the State Capitol

Hundreds rallied at the state capitol Monday in support of providing choice to many disabled workers, who may be forced to leave day programs and sheltered workshops as a result of new regulations proposed by the PA Department of Human Services. A bipartisan group of lawmakers joined the rally and voiced their support for maintaining choice in the workplace for the thousands of disabled persons presently employed in these community based programs. Rep. Frank Farry (R-Bucks) said those with intellectual and developmental disabilities benefit greatly from these programs and deserve to have a choice in where they work.
