WHAT: State Rep. Jim Rigby (R-Cambria/Somerset) will host a ceremony to officially dedicate the portion of U.S. Route 219 which crosses Jackson Street in Summerhill Borough, Cambria County, as the Staff Sergeant Paul Regis Wilburn Memorial Bridge. The dedication is the result of legislation introduced by Rigby which became part of Act 140 of 2022.

HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) announced the Commonwealth is getting more than $1.16 billion in federal funding to expand broadband access to underserved areas. The funding is coming through the federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program. The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (authority) will administer the funding.

HARRISBURG – Citing the hundreds of millions in taxpayer funding sent to Pennsylvania’s four state-related universities each year, Reps. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette) and Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) have introduced legislation to make the universities subject to the state’s Right-to-Know Law.

HARRISBURG – Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) has cosponsored nine separate pieces of legislation earmarked by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) to help Pennsylvania’s small businesses. In addition, Wentling is the prime sponsor of two more bills aimed to aid Pennsylvania employers. They address some of the biggest challenges facing small businesses, which includes covering startup costs and cutting excessive red tape.

HARRISBURG- An amendment authored by Rep. Eric Davanzo (R-Westmoreland) to require the use of American-made products in solar energy projects at Pennsylvania schools was included in legislation that passed the House today. House Bill 1032 creates the Pennsylvania Solar for Schools Grant Program, which will provide financial assistance to schools to fund solar energy projects.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives today approved legislation authored by Rep. Thomas Mehaffie (R-Dauphin) to establish safe patient limits under the care of individual nurses in Pennsylvania hospitals. House Bill 106 would be known as the Patient Safety Act.

HARRISBURG – Today, legislation co-prime sponsored by Rep. Jill Cooper (R-Westmoreland) cleared the House Education Committee with a unanimous vote. House Bill 1258 proposes improvements to the current law pertaining to dual enrollment programs in Pennsylvania schools by temporarily removing the requirement that students enrolled in such programs are removed from the school’s average daily membership.

HARRISBURG – To further modernize Pennsylvania’s educational opportunities, the House Education Committee today advanced with unanimous, bi-partisan support legislation by Republican Chairman Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton) to change the instructional time requirement to 180 days or 990 secondary and 900 elementary hours.
