HARRISBURG – Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana) today announced that the House of Representatives has voted unanimously to adopt his
House Resolution 402, a resolution recognizing the health value of whole milk and supporting the reintroduction of whole milk to school menus.
“Today’s children are missing out on calcium and other key nutrients found in whole milk because they cannot get it in school,” said Struzzi. “I hope this resolution will help compel the federal government to put whole milk back in our nation’s schools, which will help our children get the nutrients they need for healthy growth. I also hope it will help to revitalize Pennsylvania’s struggling dairy industry, which is a key part of Pennsylvania’s economy.”
The resolution was filed in support of U.S. Congressman Glenn Thompson’s federal legislation, which also supports the reintroduction of whole milk to school lunches. Whole milk was removed as an option via federal guideline revisions under the Obama administration in 2010.
Whole milk would be added as an option in addition to the current low-fat or fat-free choices but would not replace them. Students will still have the option to choose either one.
