HARRISBURG – Legislation authored by Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Hempfield) that would allow consumers to synchronize the refilling of their prescriptions is on its way to the governor’s desk after the Senate approved it today.
“I’m thrilled after several years of hard work we are on the verge of making it more convenient for our seniors, busy families and those who have challenges with transportation to fill their prescriptions in one trip,” Nelson said. “I urge the governor to sign this important legislation quickly. It has been shown that when prescriptions are synchronized, patients are more likely to take their medications as prescribed.”
House Bill 195 would allow consumers to receive their prescription medications from a pharmacy on the same day each month. It would bar an insurance company from denying coverage for a partial fill of a script in order to facilitate medication synchronization. Thirty-five other states have enacted or introduced similar legislation.
The governor has 10 days to decide whether to sign the bill.
The 57th Legislative District includes the following Westmoreland County communities: the city of Greensburg; the townships of Hempfield (part) and Salem; and the boroughs of Delmont, Hunker, New Stanton, South Greensburg, Southwest Greensburg and Youngwood.
