HARRISBURG – Rep. Kate Klunk’s (R-Hanover) legislation to provide more options to farmers who preserved their land, part of a bill package to aid the state’s agriculture industry, was signed into law today by the governor.
“This bill is a step forward for our vital farmers who graciously opted to preserve their land for generations to come,” Klunk said. “I want to thank Gov. Tom Wolf for signing the bill and all the members in the General Assembly who recognized its importance, as well as the need to pass this bi-partisan package of bills to grow Pennsylvania agriculture.”
Under previous law, farmers could subdivide a section of land from a preserved property to construct a home. However, they were not permitted to subdivide a portion of the property if a house is already on it. Klunk’s legislation, formerly
House Bill 370, allows farmers to subdivide already-constructed homes from preserved property without penalty.
There had been situations where owners of preserved farms wanted to subdivide a previously constructed home from preserved land but could not because of current law. The changes in Klunk’s law on how farmlands are preserved gives farmers more options when it comes to how their own land is used.
