HARRISBURG – The House of Representatives on Tuesday unanimously passed a bill by Rep. Seth Grove (R-Dover) to honor a Spring Grove soldier who was killed during the Vietnam War.

House Bill 199 would rename a section of road near Spring Grove the Pfc. Donald R. Gise Memorial Road,” Grove said. “U.S. Army Pfc. Gise died serving his country on Oct. 4, 1968, while stationed in the Mekong Delta during the Vietnam War.”

He is a recipient of Bronze Star and is a 1960 graduate of Spring Grove Area High School. In 1963, he married his wife, Linda. The couple had one son, who Donald sadly never had the opportunity to meet. Donald died 22 days before his son was born.

Under Grove’s bill, Route 3090, known locally as Lehman Road, and Route 3078, known locally as Meyers Road, between Route 116 and Stoverstown Road in North Codorus Township would be named for Gise.

The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.
