WHAT: The House Human Services, Health, and Aging and Older Adult Services committees will host a second joint hearing on a proposal by the Wolf administration to merge the departments of Health, Human Services, Aging, and Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) into a larger Department of Health and Human Services. This second hearing will focus on testimony from those most impacted by the proposed consolidation, including counties, providers, consumers and others. The first hearing on April 5 included testimony from the respective department secretaries.
WHO: Rep. Gene DiGirolamo (R-Bucks), chairman, Human Services Committee; Rep. Matt Baker (R-Tioga/Bradford/Potter), chairman, Health Committee; Rep. Tim Hennessey (R-Chester/Montgomery), chairman, Aging and Older Adult Services Committee; and members of all three committees. Those expected to offer testimony include Rebecca May-Cole, executive director of the Pennsylvania Association of Area Agencies on Aging; Diane A. Menio, executive director of the Center for the Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of the Elderly (CARIE); Linda Doman, president of the board of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Partnership for Aging; Hannah Wesneski; Jack Phillips, director of government affairs for the Rehabilitation and Community Providers Association; George Hartwick, Dauphin County Commissioner representing the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania; Deb Beck, president of the Drug and Alcohol Service Providers Organization of Pennsylvania; and Gary Tennis, former secretary, DDAP.
