HARRISBURG— Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny/Washington) today supported a $31.5 billion budget plan, one that would not call for tax increases or borrowing. The GOP plan would spend less than the budget offered by Gov. Tom Wolf.
“No new tax increases will certainly allow me to sleep at night,” said Saccone. “I’ve said since I took an oath of office that I am against raising taxes and this budget fits that agenda.”
In the proposal, preK-12 education would see its funding increase to $11.8 billion, which is at a record level. In the past two years, Republicans have increased funding to local schools by over $1 billion.
“This proposal is pro-taxpayer,” said Saccone. “I’ve said from day one, we need a budget that does not raise taxes for our hard-working Pennsylvanians and forces the state government to live within its means.”
Realizing the need to combat the state’s opioid epidemic, this budget provides $5 million more to treat those dealing with opioid addiction. The House Republican budget proposal is $815 million less than Wolf’s proposal.
