HARRISBURG – Rep. Cris Dush (R-Jefferson/Indiana) is asking for input from every segment of the 66th Legislative District to send to the Trump administration.
Last December, Dush participated in a Washington, DC meeting with legislators from across the country. Then President-Elect Donald Trump sent former Speaker Newt Gingrich to address the legislators in attendance.
“The message was clear: President Trump recognizes the state legislators are closest to the people and best understand how the federal government is impacting their lives and livelihoods,” said Dush. “He intends to act quickly where he has the authority to lift the burdens that hold down good people in the pursuit of doing their life’s work. To that end Speaker Gingrich said, ‘What was done with a pen can be undone with a pen. Send me a list.’”
Dush also confirmed that he knows that there are thousands of people throughout the 66th Legislative District who can help him provide the requested information to the Trump administration.
“In just a few short days President Trump has shown that he intends to honor the promises he’s made,” said Dush. “My problem in getting him the information he wants is that the more I have learned these past two years from my constituents the more I understand that no one individual can fully grasp the enormity of the problem. The famous ‘I, Pencil’ essay comes to mind.”
Dush is requesting District 66 residents to meet together in group settings and examine any federal Executive Orders and regulations that impact them in a negative way. The groups should be comprised of people with shared interest on a given set of regulations. A list should be compiled that all can agree on, breaking it down between executive orders and regulations and an explanation of the impact each has.
“Whether it’s in medicine, farming, education, manufacturing, trucking, service industries, or county and municipal governments, we have highly knowledgeable people who understand how to balance good governance with the ability to do the job and make a living,” continued Dush.
Completed lists should be sent to either his Brookville or Punxsutawney district offices and all participating groups should be available to meet with him and possibly other state legislators as a follow-up.
“Although we don’t normally take on federal issues in our offices, the Trump administration has opened a brief window of opportunity for us. My intent is to bring each list to other members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly, get some feedback and send the information directly to the Trump administration with as many legislators’ names as I can get,” said Dush. “I cannot make any promises about the responses, either from other legislators or the Trump administration, but I intend to get the information to them while things are moving in the right direction.”
The 66th Legislative District includes all of Jefferson County and the Indiana County communities of Banks, Canoe, East Mahoning, Grant, Green, Montgomery, North Mahoning, Rayne, South Mahoning and West Mahoning townships and Cherry Tree, Ernest, Glen Campbell, Marion Center, Plumville and Smicksburg boroughs.
