HARRISBURG – This week, the House organized for the 2017-18 legislative session and named Rep. Keith Greiner (R-Lancaster) to four key House committees that will give him an active role in addressing the Commonwealth’s most pressing challenges.
A certified public accountant and fiscal watchdog, Greiner is pleased he has been reappointed to the powerful House Appropriations Committee, where he will serve on the Subcommittee on Government and Financial Oversight. “Members of this subcommittee are tasked with examining how state agencies spend money and finding innovative ways to cut costs and improve government operations,” Greiner said.
The only member of the House Appropriations Committee from Lancaster County, Greiner said he will carefully scrutinize state spending in this year’s budget to ensure the interests of Pennsylvania taxpayers are protected.
“This is shaping up to be another tough budget year,” said Greiner. “The budget process begins on Feb. 7, when the governor presents his spending plan to the General Assembly. During the following several weeks, I will be involved in Appropriations Committee hearings with state government agencies and other stakeholders who rely on state funding, to determine their needs and how much funding can be justified in this year’s budget.”
Greiner has also been reappointed to the House Commerce Committee, and was appointed to the Finance, and Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness committees, all of which will benefit from his background and experience. Commerce is the oversight committee for state or federally regulated businesses or institutions that do business in the Commonwealth, such as banks, credit unions, securities and investment companies. It addresses unfair trade practices, consumer protections, state procurement programs, as well as state economic development and technical assistance programs. The Finance Committee handles tax-related legislation, including any proposed property tax reform legislation.
“As a volunteer firefighter with the Upper Leacock Fire Company for many years, I understand the challenges emergency responders face while protecting the lives and properties of the citizens we serve. It will be my honor and privilege to serve on the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee where I can put that experience to work,” Greiner said.
