HARRISBURG – State Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Crawford/Erie/Lawrence/Mercer) was appointed to serve as a deputy House majority whip for the 2017-18 legislative session.

“I am glad Pennsylvania House Majority Whip Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) entrusted me with the duties that come with serving as a deputy whip,” Wentling said. “The term ‘whip’ is a carryover from English parliament, and my job will be to whip up support or whip up votes.”

Deputy whips have a variety of responsibilities on and off the House floor, including facilitating awareness of member positions on pending bills and helping to advocate on key legislative issues. They also keep the majority whip advised of concerns that members may have and other matters potentially impacting the legislative agenda and the majority caucus as a whole. Deputy whips also receive special briefings on legislative issues, providing them with a greater breadth of knowledge.

Wentling was also recognized for having perfect attendance during the 2015-16 session. Cutler presented Wentling with a certificate to mark the achievement.

“This certificate is a sign of dedication,” Wentling said. “Perfect attendance ensures the voices of the people in the 17th District are heard loud and clear in the Capitol.”
