HARRISBURG – This week, the House organized for the new legislative session, naming members to the committees they will serve in 2017-18. Rep. Chris Quinn (R-Delaware) was reappointed to the House Urban Affairs Committee on which he served last session. He will also serve on the House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee and the Commerce Committee.
“I am pleased to have the privilege of working on committees that are so important to our state’s economy, our businesses and our communities,” said Quinn. As the former vice treasurer of the Delaware County Industrial Development Authority, Quinn’s knowledge and experience in the financing of economic and industrial development projects will be an asset on these committees.
The Urban Affairs Committee addresses cultural, economic and sociological issues specific to Pennsylvania’s urban centers, including first-and second-class cities and its 53 third-class cities. Legislation to address blight, land use, codes enforcement, zoning, municipal pensions and a number of other important public health and safety issues affecting urban settings is handled in this committee.
The House Commerce Committee provides oversight of laws and regulations that affect state or federally regulated businesses or institutions doing business in the Commonwealth, such as banks, credit unions, securities and investment companies. It deals with unfair trade practices, consumer protections, state procurement programs, and state economic development and technical assistance programs.
“I am also excited to serve on the Tourism and Recreational Development Committee,” said Quinn. “As one of Pennsylvania’s leading industries, and a major driver of our state’s economy, I look forward to working with my House colleagues on ways to enhance recreational opportunities for our citizens and visitors to the Commonwealth, and generating more state revenue.”
