HARRISBURG – On Monday, Rep. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-Northumberland/Snyder) learned she will be serving as a member of four House standing committees for the 2017-18 legislative session. Culver, who was sworn in earlier this month for her fourth term representing the people of the 108th District, will be a member of the following committees:
•
The Aging and Older Adult Services Committee, which is responsible for handling issues targeted to the age 60 and over population, as well as all programs and services available pursuant to the State Lottery Law, like PACE/PACENET and senior transportation programs. Other issues include long-term care, Area Agencies on Aging, the Department of Aging and the Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program.
• The
Insurance Committee, which is responsible for legislative and constituent inquiries relating to most lines of insurance coverage regulated by the state.
• The
Transportation Committee, which handles legislation related to general Vehicle Code and regulations, including driver licensing and training, vehicle registration, rules of the road, and all other transportation issues, such as mass transit, rail, PennDOT and highway issues.
• The
Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, which oversees legislation concerning the Pennsylvania National Guard, disaster relief, 9-1-1 emergency dispatch services, fire companies and fire police, and state veterans benefits.
Additionally, Culver is serving a second term as a deputy policy chairman for the Majority Policy Committee. Members of this committee travel across the state, conducting hearings and roundtable discussions about important issues to gather testimony and information from key stakeholders. After such meetings, she will work with her colleagues to develop policies to address the issues that matter most to Pennsylvania citizens.
“Each of the committees in which I’ve been assigned have direct ties back to our district, and I am looking forward to considering legislation and ideas to make Pennsylvania a great place to live, work and raise families,” Culver said.
