HARRISBURG – State Rep. Paul Schemel (R-Franklin) today announced that he has been appointed to serve on the Aging and Older Adult Services, Health, Judiciary and Local Government committees during the 2017-18 legislative session.
“I was pleased to receive assignments to the four committees for which I had asked,” said Schemel. “The Judiciary Committee is a particularly important committee, and I was honored to have been asked to join that committee partway through my first term. I look forward to continuing my work on that, as well as the other committees.”
The House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee considers legislation and issues affecting Pennsylvania’s elderly population, including programs and services supported by the state lottery; long-term care, adult day care, elder abuse and the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program.
The Health Committee focuses on issues such as abortion, disease management, stem cell research, health savings accounts, hospital-acquired infections, Medical Assistance, patient safety, pharmaceutical issues, telemedicine and much more.
The House Judiciary Committee focuses on issues and legislation relating to the Judicial Code, the Crimes Code and the Domestic Relations Code. Some of the topics overseen by the committee include identity theft, firearms laws, domestic violence, child abuse laws, state prisons and criminal law.
The House Local Government Committee reviews bills that would amend the municipal codes by which local governments operate. This could include legislation related to local government purchases, real estate assessment policies and statewide pensions for municipal police officers.
