HARRSIBURG – Rep. Matt Dowling (R-Fayette/Somerset) today announced he will serve on the House Children and Youth, Gaming Oversight and Local Government committees in the 2017-18 Legislative session.
“I am pleased that I will be able to serve on these important committees this session,” said Dowling. “With the Children and Youth Committee, I am looking to help enhance our system of background checks for those who work with our children. They are our future and we must continue to keep them safe from threats that can be discovered in those checks.”
Dowling said the Gaming Oversight Committee will face a number of challenges in the wake of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling overturning the municipal portion of the local share tax provision in the 2004 gaming law.
“I am fighting for a solution for the local share issue and legislation is under development to deal with it,” said Dowling. “I will be in a position to cast critical votes on this issue and others that affect gaming in Pennsylvania.”
Dowling said his appointment to the House Local Government Committee is also important to the 51st Legislative District.
“I will be able to represent our local government entities, which are at the very root of our system of laws in Pennsylvania.”
