HARRISBURG – State Rep. John McGinnis (R-Blair) today announced that he has been appointed to serve on four House committees during the 2017-18 legislative session.
“I am delighted to report my assignment to these House committees: Education, Labor and Industry, Tourism and Recreational Development, and Urban Affairs,” said McGinnis. “I am eager to serve on each, and feel I can effectively serve the needs of the Commonwealth and the interests of the 79th District particularly well with these assignments.”
The House Education Committee primarily assists with education issues, legislation, policy development and constituent requests across the entire educational spectrum, both public and private, encompassing K-12 basic education, as well as higher education.
The House Labor and Industry Committee focuses on legislation that helps shape Pennsylvania’s business climate and laws governing the state’s workforce, including workers’ compensation and unemployment compensation reforms.
The House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee considers legislation and issues ranging from tourism promotion and museum funding to the film industry and amusement parks.
The House Urban Affairs Committee reviews legislation affecting the state’s cities, including Altoona. Matters of consideration before the committee include housing; urban redevelopment; economic development; land use planning and zoning; growth management; infrastructure financing; and city services such as police, fire, sewage and water.
