HARRISBURG – With the beginning of the 2017-18 voting Session of the Pennsylvania General Assembly this week, Rep. Tim Hennessey (R-Chester/Montgomery) announced he will return as chairman of the House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee.
“It continues to be a privilege to be at the helm of this important committee in the House and I look forward to building on the record of service to our senior citizens in Pennsylvania,” said Hennessey. “The committee has a history of working in a bipartisan fashion and I will continue that tradition. Pennsylvania’s population age 65 years and older surpassed the 2 million mark and continues to grow, which makes the committee’s work that much more important for seniors, and their families.”
Hennessey said the previous session saw the creation of the Pennsylvania Long Term Care Council, which will make recommendations on regulations, finances, licensing and overall responsibilities dealing with long-term care services and support systems; an extension of the PACE and PACENET Social Security COLA Moratorium, keeping more seniors eligible for those programs; passage of the Caregiver Advise, Record and Enable (CARE) Act requiring hospitals designate a caregiver prior to discharge from a hospital; and other legislation.
Hennessey said the financial challenges that face Pennsylvania make it clear that work on maintaining programs for seniors is a high priority.
“I am proud to fight to expand services for seniors in the face of the current economic climate” said Hennessey. “Maintaining financial solvency while meeting the needs of an expanding senior population will be a great challenge for the Commonwealth, and I will see to it that the best efforts are made to make sure our programs are of the highest quality.”
Hennessey said he will also serve on the House Transportation Committee.
Hennessey is serving his 13th term in the House of Representatives in the 2017-18 session.
