HARRISBURG – For the second consecutive session, state Rep. Keith Gillespie (R-Hellam) has been appointed to serve as majority chairman of the House Game and Fisheries Committee. This will be Gillespie’s third stint as a majority chairman, having served in this same capacity during the 2015-16 session after leading the House Urban Affairs Committee in the 2013-14 session.

“It is an honor to be asked by leadership to chair this committee, which interacts with two government entities – the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) and Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) – that oversee activities I truly enjoy,” Gillespie said. “I’m looking forward to going to work and supporting the best interests of the many hunters and anglers across the state.”

One of Gillespie’s first tasks will be addressing legislation that would allow both the PGC and PFBC to set their own license fees.

“We made progress on similar bills last session, but they were never taken up on the House floor after passing through our committee,” added Gillespie. “The legislation has already been re-drafted for the 2017-18 session, and I’m looking forward to working with my Senate counterpart, Majority Chairman Pat Stefano (R-Fayette/Somerset/Westmoreland). For the good of our outdoor enthusiasts, we need to advance the ball one step further and get these bills to Gov. Tom Wolf’s desk.”

Questions about this or any other legislative issue should be addressed to Gillespie’s district office at (717) 840-4711.
