HARRISBURG – Rep. Gene DiGirolamo (R-Bucks), who has been nationally recognized for his work to help Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable residents, will again serve as chairman of the
House Human Services Committee for the new 2017-18 legislative term.
“Last session, the Legislature did extraordinary work in helping to address the heroin and opioid overdose crisis by trying to prevent these powerful drugs from getting into the wrong hands,” DiGirolamo said. “But our task is far from complete. Drug abuse deaths now outnumber those killed in car crashes, and we must do more at the state level to allow those most in crisis to get the help they need while holding drug pushers accountable.”
The House Human Services Committee has oversight of issues within the Department of Human Services and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs.
As in prior sessions, DiGirolamo intends to continue an extensive set of hearings regarding the delivery of human services throughout the Commonwealth and the challenges faced by individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, along with those needing mental health services and drug and alcohol treatment.
