HARRISBURG – State Rep. Andrew Lewis (R-Dauphin) has been appointed by Speaker of the House Mike Turzai to a key committee assignment as a member of the House Judiciary Committee.
The committee, which is chaired by state Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin), considers issues pertaining to criminal justice reform, firearms, family law, law enforcement, sex offenses, judicial reforms, animal cruelty, crime victims, juvenile justice and more.
“I’m grateful to the speaker and Chairman Kaufman for their confidence in me and look forward to hitting the ground running as a member of this crucial committee,” said Rep. Lewis. “Serving on House Judiciary will give me the opportunity to be on the front lines in our fight to uphold law and order, defend our 2nd Amendment rights, reform our criminal justice system and protect victims of human trafficking. I am eager to get to work on these issues right away and look forward to convening this week to consider a key package of legislation dealing with the all-too-prevalent problem of human trafficking.”
Lewis recognizes the committee’s role in the legislative process.
“Every bill that becomes law must pass through both a House and Senate committee,” Lewis added. “It’s where ‘Libre’s Law’ began, and where many of the efforts to stem the tide of opioid abuse are beginning. It’s where law enforcement bills are considered and 2nd Amendment issues are often debated. This committee holds a lot of significance to the 105th District as our former Rep. Ron Marsico served as chairman for many years. I’m proud to carry the torch forward and ensure the 105th District has a voice on this committee.”
In addition to the House Judiciary Committee, Lewis serves on the Finance, Liquor Control, State Government and Urban Affairs committees.
Questions about this or any legislative issue should be directed to Lewis’ district office at 717-652-3721.
