HARRISBURG – In an Oct. 25 letter to Gov. Tom Wolf, Rep. Scott Petri (R-Bucks) asked the governor to act as soon as possible to fill appointments on the Historic Preservation Board of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC). Doing so, Petri said, would save the Commonwealth a lot of money and make archived information easier to store and access.
“The appointees, who are responsible for setting preservation policy in the Commonwealth, are not compensated for their work. These are volunteer positions with important duties that should not be neglected,” said Petri, who serves on the PHMC board and has been actively involved in ensuring the preservation of Washington Crossing Historic Park, which is located in his legislative district.
“I asked Governor Wolf to fill the vacancies on the board to enable the PHMC to act on important preservation policies that will modernize our current system and will ultimately save taxpayers money.”
These vacancies have been unfilled since Gov. Tom Corbett was in office.
In his letter, Petri told Wolf: “As soon as the board is appointed, the commission plans to adopt new rules and regulations changing the protocol for the preservation of records from microfilm to a form of pdf.” Petri said switching to the computerized file storage format would collectively save state agencies, municipal governments, school districts and counties hundreds of thousands of dollars.
To date, Petri has received no response to his request.
