HARRISBURG – Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon) said she is disappointed to learn that faculty at the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education’s (PASSHE) 14 state-owned universities went on strike this morning, disrupting fall classes for more than 100,000 college students statewide.
She has issued the following statement:
Despite the fact that this year’s state budget awarded $30 million in additional state funding for PASSHE’s colleges and universities, PASSHE and the labor union representing faculty at the 14 state system schools were unable to come to an agreement that could have avoided the walkout. Faculty salaries at the state system schools rank in the top 10 percent to 15 percent nationally. I share the frustration of the students attending these schools who are now left to wonder how this labor dispute will affect their education, graduation and any jobs they may have secured upon graduation. I am hopeful for a swift resolution that will get our students back in the classroom.
