HARRISBURG – A resolution sponsored by Rep. Mark Keller (R-Perry/Cumberland) that designates Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, as National Teach Ag Day in Pennsylvania was unanimously adopted by the House of Representatives.

House Resolution 1003 recognizes the National Teach Ag Campaign as an initiative to bring attention to the career of agricultural education, get students thinking about a possible career in agricultural education, and support current agriculture teachers in their careers.

“There is currently a teacher shortage in agricultural education nationwide and many programs suffer as a result,” said Keller. “The seventh annual National Teach Ag Day will recognize and celebrate the positive impact made by agriculture teachers in and out of the classroom.

About 12,000 agriculture teachers in the United States help students learn about food, fiber and natural resources, while incorporating the principles of science, math, communication, leadership, management and technology. They are leaders in providing STEM education to students, while promoting the newest trends in the agricultural industry.
