HARRISBURG – A resolution honoring Pennsylvania’s educators as heroes for their dedication to students and the educational process during the ongoing public health emergency today was unanimously adopted by the House of Representatives, said Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne), prime sponsor of the measure.
“My intention with this resolution is to pay tribute to those teachers who have gone above and beyond since the early days of the pandemic,” said Toohil. “The educational process has changed dramatically, requiring them to adapt to new ways of teaching and interacting with their students. One example in my district are the two teachers who ran to the homes of their students last spring. David Gould and Melissa Leskosky Ritz are distance runners and they thought it was a unique and effective way to stay connected to the kids and their parents during the school shutdown.”
House Resolution 987 also credits the efforts of educators and educational support professionals with helping to ensure a safe return to the current school year. In addition, it mentions the important role teachers play in reporting suspected cases of child abuse, especially when children are home and not being seen on a daily basis.
