TAMAQUA – Rep. Jerry Knowles (R-Berks/Carbon/Schuylkill) and his House Republican colleagues today called for investigatory hearings and a legislative-led audit of the 2020 General Election, demanding that election results not be certified until a comprehensive audit is completed. Knowles made the following statement:

“For many reasons, people are questioning the validity of this election. If we have faith in the process, we can accept the result. However, that was not the case in this year’s election. We must ensure the integrity of the election. Our electoral process must be protected to ensure that every vote legally cast is counted.”

“A number of issues have come to us in the aftermath of last Tuesday’s General Election. My office is being inundated with phone calls from constituents with questions about the integrity of the mail-in ballot system. People who make up the 124th District are demanding action now. Our House Republican leadership team is closely monitoring election-related misconduct and will use every legal and legislative tool at our disposal to stand up for the rule of law and the legitimacy of our elections.

“We are calling for the immediate establishment of a bipartisan investigatory committee with subpoena power to pursue this objective. Public sentiment and the volume of lawsuits filed both before and since the election warrant such investigatory action.

“There were an unprecedented number of provisional ballots in this year’s election. I feel mail-in ballots are less secure. For example, the courts endorsed the interpretation that matching signatures are required to vote in person, but mail-in voting is a free-for-all. Remember, the state spent millions on new voting machines and security to make this the safest election possible, but the focus of this election was on mail-in ballots.

“I am frustrated with how our state has handled the process as the counting of ballots is continuing, especially in Philadelphia. We have all had suspicions about voter fraud in Philadelphia. We can lay to rest that suspicion. Let’s get the truth!

“I will do everything in my power to continue to fight for a fair vote count in Pennsylvania, where every legal ballot is counted in a transparent manner.”
