Lawmaker says it doesn’t properly serve the needs of his constituents
HARRISBURG – Despite the House of Representatives voting today to approve a $32.1 state budget for Fiscal Year 2020-21, Rep. Mike Puskaric (R-Allegheny/Washington) cast his vote against the spending plan.
Puskaric issued the following statement:
“At a time when our Commonwealth is struggling financially because of COVID-19 lockdowns, today, we were asked to subsidize the failed policies of the city of Harrisburg, among other pet projects. I was elected to put the needs of the 39th District first, and this budget falls short.
“A total of $5 million will be allocated to the Harrisburg Fire Department, and even more funding will be given to the city. Where do we get that money? It will be coming out of your paychecks. State government should be assisting our volunteer fire departments who desperately need financial assistance. Instead, these hard-working volunteers are constantly being harassed by our government to do a better job fundraising.
“I will continue to fight for our district and will always push back against the out-of-touch policies that Harrisburg is famous for.”
