HARRISBURG - Rep. Tim Hennessey (R-Montgomery/Chester) announced today that shipments of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine have begun to arrive in Pennsylvania and will soon arrive at area hospitals.
Yesterday, Monongahela Valley Hospital and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh received the vaccine. About 97,500 doses are being shipped to 87 hospitals statewide, including Pottstown and Brandywine hospitals, by Monday, Dec. 21. Philadelphia County will receive its own allotment of 13,650 doses, for a total of 111,150 doses for health care workers identified in the state’s vaccine distribution plan.
“The vaccine will be available in phases beginning with critical populations such as health care workers, EMS first responders and residents and staff in congregate care settings.” said Hennessey. “The Department of Health anticipates more vaccine being available in the near future to allow all health care, emergency personnel and critical populations to receive the vaccine and to begin administering the vaccine to the entire population.
“I am pleased with the speed at which this lifesaving vaccine has been made available, and like so many others, I am anxious for life to get back to normal for residents and businesses. We need to put this pandemic behind us. In the meantime, it is important to continue adhering to CDC health and safety protocols, including hand washing, wearing masks and social distancing. This is no time to let our guard down,” Hennessey said.
