HARRISBURG - Rep. Mike Puskaric (R-Allegheny/Washington) will be introducing three bills to address the critical need to reform our election process. The legislation will be dealing with auditing the voter’s roles, abolishing the “no-excuse” mail-in vote and to make Election Day (primary and general) a statewide holiday.
“These three commonsense pieces of legislation will act as a cornerstone of our election integrity,” said Puskaric.
The Voter Registration Database Audit Act would provide for an audit of the voter registration database by the Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth; and providing for a report to the General Assembly. In addition, the legislation would eliminate from the database all deceased and inactive electors.
Puskaric said, “Requiring an audit of the voter rolls will ensure that only those legally permitted to vote can do so.”
Abolishing the “no-excuse” mail-in vote legislation would inspect and open all envelopes containing official absentee or mail-in ballots. The legislation would also remove the ballots from the envelopes and the counting, computing and tallying of votes reflected on the ballots.
“Our no-excuse mail-in vote has been a disaster,” said Puskaric. It has enabled those who seek to undermine our electoral process to do so. We have had all of the security requirements removed by the governor’s administration as well as our Pennsylvania Supreme Court. This has enabled ballot harvesting and late voting. One of the biggest flaws in the current legislation is that when it is combined with a direct voter database such as “Rock The Vote,” it enables activists to calculate, predict and ballot chase until their candidate has won their race.”
Making Election Day a state holiday legislation would give Pennsylvania’s workers the day off, so they do not have to rush to vote. There would be no excuse not to get to the polls to cast a vote.
“We need to make Election Day a holiday,” said Puskaric. “Encouraging all Pennsylvanians to get involved in the election process is essential to rooting out the fraud. We must have people from all political backgrounds participating in the vote count and the certification process.”
Puskaric will be introducing these three election reform bills when the new legislative session begins in January.
