HARRISBURG – Rep. John Hershey (R-Mifflin/Juniata/Franklin) has been named to the House Appropriations Committee as he begins his second term as a lawmaker.

The Appropriations Committee is the driving force behind the state budget. Its members question spending requests put forward by agencies, debate the merits of those requests and draft a budget proposal that goes to the full House for approval.

“We are pleased to have John as a member of the committee. He has demonstrated a determined approach at solving key issues by working with other members while always keeping a watchful eye on the taxpayers' money and their liberties,” said Stan Saylor (R-York), who is chairman of the committee.

“I’m thankful Chairman Saylor is entrusting me with the responsibility of being on this important committee,” Hershey said. “The coming year may be one of the hardest as we craft a budget amidst the economic strains created by the COVID-19 pandemic and governor’s shutdown orders. I’m ready to do my part to oppose spending and tax increases.”

The 2021-22 Legislative Session starts Tuesday, Jan. 5, when members are sworn into office.
