HARRISBURG – Members of the Adams and York County House Republican delegations today continued their fight for fiscal responsibility by opposing the elements of the state budget package from which revenues for the 2016-17 fiscal year are derived. The remaining elements of the budget package are expected to be signed into law by Gov. Tom Wolf.
Members of the delegation, state Reps. Seth Grove (R-Dover), Kate Klunk (R-Hanover), Dan Moul (R-Gettysburg), Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York Township), Mike Regan (R-Dillsburg), Stan Saylor (R-Red Lion) and Will Tallman (R-Abbottstown), issued the following statement upon passage of the legislation:
“While Pennsylvania is minutes from officially having in place a 2016-17 state budget, it is deeply disappointing to see the spending plan accomplished through excessive spending that is based in fiscal irresponsibility. The General Assembly managed to again fight off the governor’s need for broad-based tax increases. What it did not do is set an example of fiscal stewardship for hard-working Pennsylvanians.
“Where is the pension reform we support that will unlock even more dollars for public education? Why hasn’t the Senate acted on the property tax relief legislation they were sent more than a year ago? Why were suggestions made by the Taxpayers Caucus that could have helped balance this budget responsibly ignored?”
“The 2016-17 budget is NOT a good deal for Pennsylvania taxpayers. Government must be held accountable to the people who pay the bills and cannot continue to grow excessively while taxpayers continue to struggle.
“The day we increase taxes on hard-working Pennsylvania should only occur AFTER we have exhausted every attempt to reduce the size of state government and make it as efficient and streamlined as it possibly can and must be.”
