HARRISBURG – Majority chairman of the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee Rep. Steve Barrar (R-Chester/Delaware) commends Gov. Tom Wolf for signing his bill to increase the minimum state active duty pay for Pennsylvania National Guard members from $75 to $100 per day.
The increase benefits Pennsylvania’s lower-ranking enlisted personnel, who are earning a lower base pay due to having less time and grade in the military. It would make the Commonwealth comparable to neighboring states, which have already honored their state active duty National Guard with an increase.
“After two decades without an increase, these hard-working men and women will finally see a raise. I thank all legislators in the House and Senate for their support of our Pennsylvania National Guard and my bill,” Barrar said.
The increase, which received unanimous support from the General Assembly, was effective with the signing of the bill on July 1.
