HARRISBURG – After months of shutdowns, mismanaged bureaucracy and extreme challenges facing countless business and industries as a result of the global pandemic, Speaker of the House Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) joined every member of the House of Representatives in approving a comprehensive COVID-19 relief package.
“The impact of COVID-19 on our economy, educational institutions and families will be felt for months and years to come,” Cutler said. “The funding provided from this package will provide much-needed assistance, but the focus must remain on expanding vaccine access and defeating this virus once and for all.”
Senate Bill 109 allocates $145 million in grants for the hard-hit restaurant and hospitality industry, $570 million for rental and utility assistance, and $197 million in funding for various educational institutions, including career and technical schools, community colleges and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
The measure also clarifies funding received by businesses from the federal Paycheck Protection Program is not subject to state income taxes.
The amended proposal was subsequently approved by the Senate and sent to the governor’s desk for his signature.
